Bryce’s Room

CiccarelliPhotography_0425

Oh how time has flown. Not only is it our crazy fun, busy, hot, lovely wedding season, BUT we’re also trying to “stop and smell the roses”…with our son. He loves flowers, but mostly enjoys pulling on them, tearing off the petals, and then shoving them in his mouth (and doesn’t love our sweeping fingers in his mouth fishing them out). Needless to say, time with him is amazing and at the top of our priority list since it seems like he grows an inch (and a pound) each day. So even though we were planning on photographing his nursery before he was born, it happened when he was 7 months and even though we planned on posting this blog then, it’s happening now…as he’s turning 9 months tomorrow!

So finally here it is, a labor of love (you’ll read why below)…Bryce’s room.

You may notice that he doesn’t have a crib. True. We tried our very best to create a Montessori nursery for him (Marissa used to be a Montessori teacher and loves the philosophy behind it all). Thus, no crib, and instead his mattress is on the floor. We built the little bed around the mattress from reclaimed high school bleacher wood we bought at a reuse building supply store here in Seattle so he wouldn’t roll out. So far so good, but we did have to block the opening for now with a pillow, at least until he learns to crawl down off the mattress without slamming into his face.

The mobile is a branch from our backyard that we strung folded cranes from (a skill learned way back when).

An estate sale brought this little pony wagon to Bryce from his Grammy. All of his toys were gifts or hand-me downs from our childhoods, family, and friends.

We incorporated some old baby photos of ourselves, silver cups we used as babies passed down from our parents, and of course Bryce’s first camera (the one toy we bought).

None of the art is fancy, but a lot has meaning, like the sun below. We painted it the week we spent in Mexico for our wedding.

This chair was Marissa’s as a girl so we painted it to give it a fresh look.

We learned how to sand, stain and refinish furniture with this dresser below (oh so much fun). Maternity photo by Barrie Anne Photography.

Etsy was quite possibly the most dangerous/wonderful place for decor. The blocks are handmade by one of our best friends’ sisters in Ohio!

So many people have asked us if we added a ballet bar (below left), and although we certainly plan to put Bryce in lessons (our family has a huge dance background) this is actually a pull-up bar, specifically for teaching infants how to stand from seated (a Montessori thing).

Bryce’s favorite thing is banging on the keys of his little piano (an 80 year old relic). Hopefully that leads to a musical ear? For now, we grin and pretend the music is peaceful.

Like everything in our life with Bryce these days, we cherish the moments, each new development, and every new sound and smile. He’s definitely teaching us to enjoy the little things and slow down a bit…and his biggest lesson of all? The funniest things happen all the time, you just have to stop to see them.

Catherine & Brian | Fremont Foundry Wedding

CiccarelliPhotography_0419

This love story happened over coffee, like so many others, but unlike most it was coffee being brewed and milk being steamed. Catherine and Brian got to know one another as baristas, but it was the coincidence of having a shared UW class that really brought them together.

Their wedding day was urban and chic and nothing short of perfect. It’s always amazing when a couple decides to write their own vows, but when a groom memorizes them and speaks from the heart while looking into the eyes of his soon to be wife…well, there won’t be a dry eye in the house. Even Catherine said, “I have to follow that?” which she did beautifully by the way.

Thank goodness for coffee addicts, Starbucks, and late night study sessions. Congratulations Catherine & Brian! ~Erik & Marissa

Lauren & Jamie | Green Lake Engagement

She claims he’s not good at keeping secrets, but this one time at least, he nailed it. For her birthday they took a ferry to Brown Island for a weekend getaway. He stashed a very important ring and didn’t tell anyone, just in case. Jamie suggested a walk along the beach and she thought nothing of it, until he dropped to one knee and asked her to be his, forever. Lauren was so shocked at being surprised that she squealed and excitedly said yes, already knowing that he was the one she was meant to be with for the rest of their days.

Less than a month to go you two! So excited to celebrate your wedding day. ~Erik & Marissa

We had a last minute change of location (thanks Adele), but were so grateful to hold the session in Lauren & Jamie’s new home and neighborhood, which made it that much more special.

Kaitlin & Nick | Westland Distillery Wedding

Kaitlin is one of those perfectly happy brides we love! Even an hour into their wedding day she said her cheeks hurt (Nick is the BEST at bringing out her smiles, probably one of the reasons she fell for him!). This bride just couldn’t stop smiling! And they both had a lot to smile about.

Her bridesmaids all showed up in denim shirts (unplanned), she was getting ready right next door to her soon to be husband (Nick had rented out the neighbor’s house), they traveled everywhere on a giant bus with their friends (and a few beverages), she had a beautifully decorated reception at Westland Distillery (thanks to Simply by Tamara Nicole, Smashing Petals & Chalkful), and best of all Kaitlin married the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with…with these and so many more reasons to be happy, that smile never left Kaitlin’s face (except maybe for a few teary speeches, but those were happy tears).

Congratulations Nick & Kaitlin! We couldn’t be happier for you two, what an amazing wedding day! We wish you two (plus your puppy of course) a lifetime of love, adventure, and plenty of smiles (Kaitlin will make sure of that:) ~Erik & Marissa

Julie & Matt | Lake Sammamish Park

She had noticed him during their work meetings because of his sense of humor and great insight. He noticed her too and began finding excuses to stop by her cubicle. They realized there was a lot in common between the two of them and decided to start spending time together outside of work. Walks led to more adventurous hikes which led to trail runs (and now they run races together!). Julie figured if Matt still found her attractive after seeing her red-faced and sweaty, “he was a keeper!”

Thank you for a wonderful engagement session you two (and for showing us a gorgeous new spot)! We are so excited to see you soon for the big day! ~Erik & Marissa
